The Body’s Natural Alarm System

Chronic_Pain

Our nervous system is our body’s alarm system. The nervous system is made up of our brain, spinal cord, and every nerve that connects everywhere in the body. Whenever there is a treat our alarm system starts to go off. Except, the brain produces pain instead of a loud noise.

Pain is a protective mechanism and this is a really good thing. Without it we would be in trouble. Sometimes, our nervous system can become too sensitive and the alarm is “set off” when there is actually no damage or injury. As a pain experience continues the persistence creates an alarm system that becomes more and more sensitive. The slightest thing creates pain. Nothing is damaged, everything is too sensitive. The body is now understanding normal movements or activities as painful. Reducing this sensitivity takes active treatment and there are many things that you can do.

The best way and most proven way to beat the pain, is to move! Just move, and move in ways you enjoy. Walk, run, lift weights, swim, ride a bike at a tolerable level. Slowly increase the amount of time you spend moving. If you are suffering from chronic or persistent pain, let us know. We are happy to help guide you through the process. Don’t let your alarm system keep you up all night!
